How to use Slack
Last Updated 3 years ago

Our number-one recommendation for SMS with our platform, Slack offers a variety of functions that do so much more than plain texting! Group chats, MMS, and more can be handled with ease from anywhere with an internet connection.

How to initiate text thread
  1. From the Slack home page, look on the sidebar, and scroll to the bottom.
  2. Click textanywhere
  3. In the "thread" that appears (it's more of just a history of channel opens), enter /sms [team] [destination] [message], replacing the bracketed variables with the respective values. (/sms support 4805714454 Hello World)
  4. Upon sending, you will send a message to your chosen destination number, and also open a thread/channel with said number.
  5. If someone texts your SMS number that is tied into Slack, a thread will appear as well.
How to manage threads
  1. On the sidebar is a list of threads identified by nametags (see below)
  2. Clicking on one allows you to chat with the participants, chatroom style.
  3. To send a message, simply write your message, and it will be sent to the owner (whoever the thread was initiated with). Other people in your group can also view the thread and chime in.
How to rename threads
  1. Threads (aka channels) are named based on the phone number you are texting with, along with your company name. However, should you find a channel particularly important, you may want to rename it.
  2. Open the channel you'd like to rename.
  3. Click the gear icon to open the Channel Settings menu.
  4. Select Additional options.
  5. Click Rename this channel.
  6. Enter a new name, then click Rename Channel.
